WACO, Texas (KWTX) A "loud, unidentified popping noise" led to a delay in the release of students from Midway High School and Midway Middle School Thursday afternoon.

“Right before pick up time, many people in the Midway Middle School parking lot heard loud, unidentified popping noise. Both campuses were placed in hold security status to remain in 8th period classes until the noise was investigated and cleared by Hewitt Police Department,” Superintendent George Kazanas said in a message to parents.

Police determined the noise was made by a car, a district spokeswoman said.
