BELTON, Texas (KWTX) Joseph Manuel Blas, 26, who was arrested in California after a shooting that left a local man dead has been returned to Central Texas.

Blas was held without bond Monday in the Bell County Jail charged with murder in connection with a shooting on March 10 that left Thomas Raymond West, 35, of Harker Heights, dead.

Officers from the U.S. Marshal’s Service Pacific Southwest Regional Task Force arrested Blas on April 20 in Fountain Valley, Calif.

He was named in an arrest warrant issued on March 12, two days after the deadly shooting.

Officers who responded to a report of shots fired at around 6:45 p.m. on March 10 in the 1000 block of Indian Trail found West lying on the ground bleeding from entry and exit gunshot wounds in the hip and abdomen, police said in a news release.

“Officers applied pressure to the wounds while talking to him. Harker Heights EMS arrived on scene and attempted life-saving measures; however, the victim succumbed to the fatal wounds,” police said.
