Marlin: Prayer event held in wake of recent tragedies
A minister is trying to bring the community together, after a number of deaths within the last few months have affected the town of Marlin.
"When you see people in a community hurting you hurt right along with them," says George Stricklin a minister who was born and raised in the city.
Stricklin, wanting to help unite the community, decided to hold a prayer event at Marlin's MLK park.
"We have lost of our police chiefs, a sheriff's deputy and it just seems like a lot of death the past few months," says Marlin City Manager Cedric Davis who was in attendance for the event.
In the last year Marlin, police Chief Nathan Sodek committed suicide, Falls County Deputy Matt Jones was struck and killed at an accident scene and several other area residents have died in traffic crashes.
"Events like this keep community spirit alive," says Davis.
"Even though we have had some setbacks in Marlin, our future is getting brighter," he says.
Davis went on to say that he believes that the city will begin to have better luck in the months ahead.
"You may see us down right now but I promise Marlin will rise again," says Stricklin.
