WACO, Texas (KWTX) Savannah Cardoza, 17, of Speegleville, remained in the McLennan County Thursday after her arrest on warrants stemming from a crash in November on State Highway 6 that claimed the life of a truck driver.

The Midway High School student, who was arrested Wednesday afternoon on the school campus, is charged with manslaughter, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Her bonds total $21,000.

Donald Lawrence Ray of Weatherford died in the early-morning accident on Nov. 3.

Investigators determined that the passenger car Cardoza was driving south in the northbound lanes of the highway collided head-on with a second passenger vehicle, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said.

Investigators think that Ray attempted to avoid the two cars, but lost control of his rig, which overturned on the passenger side against the guard rail, he said.

Ray was trapped in the wreckage.

He died at the scene.

"Detectives determined that Cardoza took the vehicle she was driving without permission and was driving the wrong way on Highway 6,” police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said.
