WACO, Texas (KWTX) Two Midway High School students have been busted for bringing drugs to campus after skipping school Wednesday.

According to Hewitt police, after being tipped-off about the students possibly skipping class, a school resource officer (SRO) found the 14-year-old girls in the school’s back parking lot at the end of the day.

Police Chief Jim Devlin said the freshman were walking back to campus.

He said the SRO detained them for truancy, and upon driving them to the front office, smelled an odor of marijuana.

Both admitted they had marijuana in their backpacks in the front seat, Devlin said.

The SRO seized the contraband, charged the students with possession of marijuana in a drug-free zone, and released them back to their guardians, Devlin said.

The case was referred to the McLennan County Juvenile Court.
