The accident happened just after 2:50 a.m. Thursday on the southbound interstate between Troy and Bruceville-Eddy.

The driver of a 2018 International 18-wheeler slowed for unknown reasons and the driver of a 2018 Freightliner behind the first rig slowed as well, Department of Public Safety Sgt. David Roberts said.

But Davis, who was driving a 2018 Volvo 18-wheeler, wasn’t able to slow down in time and his rig struck the rear of the Freightliner, pushing it into the rear of the first truck.

Davis, who was not wearing a seat belt, died at the scene, Roberts said.

The driver of the International truck, Robert Sillemon, 52, of Mesquite, and the driver of the Freightliner, Christopher Humbert, 47, of Troy, were both taken to Scott and White Medical Center in Temple with what Roberts described as non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash is still under investigation, Roberts said.
