Victim in deadly New Year's morning shooting identified

Waco police are investigating after a New Year's morning fight at a Waco nightclub results in a fatal shooting.

Officers later identified the victim as Marcus Carprew, 39, of Waco.

Police responded to the scene ar 211 South Loop at the House of Blues Club just after 2 a.m.

They said they found Carprew dead after suffering several gunshot wounds.

Investigators believed Carprew and the suspect were arguing in the club and then moved into into the parking lot where the shooting took place.

Police said a person of interest in the shooting was identified and detained.

According to Sgt. Patrick Swanton, arrests have not been made at this point in the investigation.

Swanton said several people witnessed the shooting and the department is encouraging anyone with information to contact them at (254) 750-7500.
