TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) Temple police Tuesday identified the off-duty officer who died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound Friday.

Officers were dispatched just after 2:20 p.m. to a home in the 1400 block of Blue Leaf Drive in Temple in response to a report of a gunshot wound.

Inside they found Officer Christopher Gallup, 30, dead.

“Upon arrival, officers determined that the residence belonged to an off-duty Temple police officer,” police Chief Floyd Mitchell said in a press release Friday afternoon.

“The deceased had been with the Temple Police Department for three years,” he said.

“The department is providing the opportunity for officers who responded to the scene, and others affected, to speak with counselors,” he said.
