Off-duty Temple officer arrested for DWI

A Temple police officer was arrested for DWI in Harker Heights on New Year's Eve, according to a release from Temple PD.

Officer Joseph Thomas was arrested by a Harker Heights officer. Harker Heights is also conducting the criminal investigation.

Officer Thomas was off-duty at the time of the incident. He was placed on Investigatory leave with pay, while Temple PD's Professional Standards Unit conducts an internal investigation.

Thomas was named the Department's Community Investment Officer and Assistant Public Information Officer in October.
