Harker Heights: Officer intervenes after spotting man firing at woman

An off-duty Harker Heights officer was able to intervene Friday night after spotting a man who was chasing and shooting at a woman, police said Monday.

The unidentified officer was able to detain the man, whom police identified Monday as Ronnell Lamont Brown, 39, until on-duty officers arrived.

Brown was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon/family violence and possession of a firearm by a felon, police said in a press release Monday.

The shooting was reported at around 9:25 p.m. on Friday in the area of Travis Lane and Beeline Lane.

The unnamed victim was struck once in the buttocks and once in the ankle, police said.

She was taken to Scott & White Medical Center in Temple where she was taken into surgery, police said.

The man and woman “were in a dating relationship” and were arguing outside their home in the 900 block of Travis Lane when the woman said she was going to call 911, police said.

“Brown then threatened the female and retrieved a handgun, and chased her down the street shooting at her before the off duty police officer was able to intervene. The victim continues to recover at the hospital,” the press release said.

Brown was ordered held in lieu of bonds totaling $150,000.
