KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) A campus police officer who was attacked by a student at a Killeen middle school was taken to a local hospital early Thursday afternoon.

KISD and Killeen officers responded early Thursday afternoon to Charles Patterson Middle School at 8383 Trimmier Rd.

The officer was assaulted and injured while trying to escort a student who left school without permission back to campus, the district said in a brief press release.

“The student was taken in to custody for assault on a public servant,” the district said.

Initial reports indicated the officer was down in the road and bleeding, but neither Killeen police nor the school district could immediately confirm the information.

Classes at the school continued without interruption.

Information about the officer and the officer’s injuries wasn’t immediately released.
