Local JP confirms identity of man who drowned in Lake Waco

WACO, Texas (KWTX) A local Justice of the Peace confirmed the identity of a man who drowned in Lake Waco on Monday.

Christopher Sharp, 19, was declared dead at Baylor Scott and White Medical Center-Hillcrest, hours after being pulled from the water.

The incident happened at the Speegleville Park swimming beach on Lake Waco.

The drowning happened around 1:16 p.m. Monday, while hundreds were at the park for Memorial Day activities.

Waco police said the victim swam past the area marked for safe swimming and went under the water.

KWTX was there when Sharp was brought ashore by search crews just after 1:40 p.m.

Waco Police, the Waco Fire Department, and ETMC responded to the incident.
