Authorities Tuesday identified the victim of a deadly weekend motorcycle crash as Fort Hood Sgt. Jonathan Garrett Garcia, 29 of Georgetown who was a veteran of deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan and the recipient of a Purple Heart.
Garcia was westbound on U.S. Highway 190 at around 1:30 a.m. Sunday when he lost control of his motorcycle on a curve.
The 2006 Yamaha motorcycle left the road and hit a cable barrier post.
Garcia died at the scene.
Garcia joined the Army in 2007 and since November 2016 had been assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division’s 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team.
He deployed to Iraq from May 2009 to May 2010 and to Afghanistan from April 2011 to February 2012.
An autopsy wasn’t ordered, but a blood sample was ordered for toxicology tests.
