Update: Man identified in Friday morning Salado fatal accident
One man was killed in an accident Friday morning on Interstate 35 in Salado that involved two tractor trailers and a pedestrian.
Traffic was moving slowly northbound near a rest area between mile markers 281 and 282 while crews cleared the area of debris and conducted their investigation.
A Department of Public Safety communications officer told News 10 troopers had been at the scene of the crash since a little before 5 a.m., but Bell County Sheriff’s Deputies had been there since some time earlier.
DPS Sgt. Dave Roberts told News 10 around 3:20 a.m., a truck tractor, semi-trailer was parked on the shoulder of the roadway near exit 281 and the driver had gotten out of the cab.
A second northbound tractor trailer struck the left rear of the parked truck, then struck the driver who was standing alongside the rig. That driver, Fuad Sawalha, 52, of Arlington, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the second truck, Isaiah Lee, 28, of Charleston, MS. 0Lee was uninjured.
The crash remains under investigation.
