A Central Texas man who died in a head-on crash Monday night on Interstate 35 was driving the wrong way on the highway, police say.

Police have identified the victim as Jimmy Tee Satterwhite III, 21, of Killeen.

Satterwhite was driving north in the southbound lanes of the highway at around 9:55 p.m. Monday when his vehicle collided-head on with another vehicle that was headed south on the interstate near Amity Road between Belton and Salado.

The driver of the second vehicle was taken to Scott & White Medical Center in Temple.

The crash closed down the southbound lanes in the area of the accident until early Tuesday morning.

Southbound traffic was detoured onto the access road at Tahuaya Road and back onto the highway after Amity.
