Waco firefighter Garth Goodwin was paralyzed in May, but five months later he's starting to regain his independence.
Goodwin started to drive again this week with the help of a special truck with hand controls installed.
In mid-May, Goodwin, a veteran at the Waco Fire Department, was paralyzed from the waist down after falling from a billboard in an off-duty work accident.
He's now bound to a wheelchair.
The community rallied behind Goodwin and his family in the months after his accident.
There's currently a house being built for them paid for entirely through donations.
