Pickup hits bicycle on rural road, killing Central Texas cyclist
Authorities Monday identified a Central Texas man who died after a pickup truck hit his bicycle Sunday as he road along a rural road northeast of Lampasas.
Douglas Wheeler, 56, of Kempner, was riding south on FM 2527 about three-tenths of a mile north of FM 580 at around 12:15 p.m. Sunday when a southbound 2003 Chevrolet pickup that was behind him struck his bicycle, Department of Public Safety Sgt. John Roberts said Monday.
Wheeler died at the scene.
The driver of the pickup, whom Roberts identified as Curtis Windham, Sr., 68, of Lampasas, was not injured.
The crash is under investigation.
