Travis Havercamp, 37, who was severely injured Monday when his pickup crossed the median on U.S. Highway 77 and slammed into the rear of a gravel truck, has died at a local hospital.

The accident happened at around 12:15 p.m. Monday on the Highway 77 bridge beneath Waco Drive just west of Interstate 35.

The pickup was northbound on the highway when it crossed the median and hit the rear of the southbound gravel truck and then careened back into the northbound lanes, police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said.

The force of impact knocked the rear axle off the gravel truck.

The driver of the gravel truck was not injured, Swanton said.

The highway was closed in the area of the accident until the wreckage was cleared.
