It happened in the area of York Avenue and Vermont Street, just off North Fort Hood Street and south of West Rancier Avenue.

It began as officers were trying to serve a warrant for Brandon Olivarez, 25, for possession of a firearm by a felon.

Authorities say the situation had the potential to be very dangerous, so a Killeen Police task force including SWAT was called out to secure the area and keep the public away.

"Due to the nature of the warrant he has active, we wanted everyone to just be alert to stay away, just take precautionary measures," said Ofelia Miramontez with Killeen PD.

Olivarez was eventually taken into custody without incident.
