Police investigate 3rd deadly neighborhood shooting in less than 48 hours

Police Wednesday were investigating the third deadly shooting in a Killeen residential neighborhood in less than 48 hours.

Officers who responded to a report of the shooting just before 11 p.m. on Tuesday in the 400 block of Alpine Drive found the victim, Jared Michael Tristan, 29, sitting inside a vehicle.

They performed lifesaving measures until paramedics arrived, police said.

Tristan died at the scene.

A preliminary investigation determined that Tristan arrived at the home and got into argument with a woman.

A male friend of the woman’s intervened and the dispute turned physical, police spokeswoman Ofelia Miramontez said.

“After the two males separated, the victim displayed a knife, and the suspect retrieved a handgun and fired a gunshot towards the victim,” she said.

A suspect was detained, but police did not identify him Wednesday.

The deadly shooting was the third in Killeen since early Monday.

Christopher McWhoter, 35, died at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center after he was shot early Monday morning in Killeen during struggle with another man over a handgun during an argument that turned violent, police said Tuesday.

Officers responded to the shooting at around 5:10 a.m. Monday in the 600 block of West Green Avenue.

They performed lifesaving measures until paramedics arrived, police said.

Ricky Darnell Ball, 30, was shot to death Monday night in a neighborhood near Palo Alto Middle School in Killeen

Officers found Ball after responding just after 9 p.m. Monday to a report of gunfire at a home in the 2800 block of Kerrville Court just off Elms Road.

He was lying on the ground in from of a home and was not breathing.

Ball was pronounced dead at the scene at around 9:50 p.m. Monday.
