WACO, Texas (KWTX) Police are investigating a shooting Tuesday night at an apartment complex that sent two people to a Waco hospital, the latest in a string of incidents including several drive-by shootings, a shooting at a North Waco home that injured two, and a shooting at home Friday night that left one dead and three injured.

Off-duty officers working security at around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday at South Terrace Apartments at 204 Kennedy Circle heard gunfire and as they checked the area found a man who had been shot in the arm nearby in the 1200 block of Carter Drive, police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said in a press release Wednesday.

A short time later a second victim turned up at a local hospital with a gunshot wound to his back.

Officers determined the two victims were sitting with a third person in a car in a parking lot near the complex in the 200 block of Lyndon Circle when two men approached and opened fire, Swanton said.

The victim who was struck in the back ran with one of the men in pursuit.

He fled to a friend’s house where he hid until the two gunmen left and then was driven to a hospital, Swanton said.

The second victim wasn’t struck in the initial round of gunfire, but was shot in the arm after he returned to the parking lot.

The third victim ran and hasn’t been accounted for, although police don’t think he was shot.

Narcotics were recovered from the victims’ car, Swanton said.

“In several of the shootings that have occurred in the past few weeks, investigating officers are finding evidence of drugs and the potential sale of these narcotics,” Swanton said.
