KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) Police late Tuesday afternoon identified the victim of a shooting Monday evening at a Killeen apartment complex as Terrance Darnell Iles, 22.

He died at the scene, police said.

Officers responded at around 6:30 p.m. Monday to a report of the shooting at the Lakeview apartments at 2908 Lake Rd. off Bundrant Drive just west of Long Branch Park.

Officers found the unresponsive male victim “in the parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound," a statement said.

Police are still searching for a suspect.

"We are just asking people to put the guns down," police Chief Charles Kimble said Monday night.

"People don't have to die."

"The public is tired, the police department is tired. We are asking if you're tired of the violence call us and help us. We need your help in the case from (Saturday) and today," Kimble said.

Five people have now died since early Saturday as a result of gun violence in the Killeen area.

Two men and a woman, all in their early 20s, were found shot to death at around 1 a.m. Saturday at the Summerlyn Apartments at 4101 East Rancier Ave.

Early Sunday morning Michael Anthony Hackney, Jr., of Killeen, died at a local hospital after a shooting in the parking lot of Club Krush at 201 West Veterans Memorial Blvd., in Harker Heights.

A second person was injured in the shooting and was taken to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The second victim has not been identified.
