'Pray': Local student remains in ICU after accident
The family of a 14-year-old high school student injured in an accident last week is holding on and asking for prayers.
Kenneth Curley and two other band members were injured after they were involved in an accident Friday morning at the intersection of FM 1113 and FM 580 in Topsey.
According to DPS, the accident happened around 11:35 a.m. The teens were in a Toyota pickup truck when they collided with a Chevrolet pickup truck.
On Monday, Curley had his third surgery since the accident. His stepmother, Tammy Callison, says the family is holding on.
Callison says the moment she found out about the accident was terrifying.
"It was terrifying. The drive from Killeen to Temple not knowing what's going on. Having to call the kids back and tell them he's been in an accident. It's been an overwhelming amount of emotion since then," she said.
Callison says the family can feel the support from the community and praying that Kenneth and his friends make a full recovery.
"Pray for him. Pray for his friends. Pray for us because the logistics of being in two places at once and trying to take care of our kids and Kenneth at the same time is hard," she said.
Some of the injuries Curley sustained were broken bones in his leg, a fractured elbow, bruised lungs and a broken nose.
On social media, Callison has been posting updates about the teen's progress.
She says the Band Boosters have set up a meal sign-up to make sure her children have food at home.
A GoFundMe account has been set up to help with expenses.
