Prom for 2 ‘was truly just one to remember,’ local HS senior says
Two Harker Heights seniors not only attended a prom with the same Roaring 20s theme as their school originally planned before the coronavirus pandemic, but also they were crowned king and queen of the big event as their families came together to give them a night they'll never forget.
Cece Thompkins, 17, and Kevin Donnell, 18, have missed out on lots of end-of-the-year traditions as seniors, but they were determined to dance on despite a canceled prom.
"I never had been to any of the proms in high school and we already had bought my dress and everything," Cece said.
"I felt like Cece deserved a prom and I really wanted to do something special for her," her date, Kevin said.
"So I got together with her mom and my mom and we ended up all coming together and doing something special that I'm always going to have with me."
Cece's mom, Reyhana Khalil, worked alongside Kevin's family and her family friend Melissa McFrazier to make sure every last detail was perfect.
The prom was held at the McFrazier's home in Killeen where the dining room was transformed into a picture perfect spot to enjoy a meal from Razzoo's Cajun Cafe in Killeen, complete with beautiful table decor and special touches like a placemat which included signs which read "Class of 2020."
"We decorated everything in the same theme the school originally planned which was the Roaring 20s, Reyhana said.
"Kevin picked up Cece and they took pictures like a real prom, we had dinner and desert for them."
Cece got help doing her makeup from big sister Haillie via Facetime.
Her mom helped her with her hair.
"The make-up prom was pretty and everything was decorated and we had fun," Cece said.
Kevin wore his suit and bowtie.
The two even had "Prom King" and "Prom Queen" sashes they put on for pictures which included a background and red carpet to stand on.
The Harker Heights seniors say while their senior prom wasn't the way they envisioned it just weeks before, thanks to the thoughtfulness of family and friends, the evening for two was perfect.
"It was different because we personalized it to us. We had our own music. We had our own food, real one-on-one time and it was truly just one to remember," Kevin said. "The prom experience was amazing."
