Rangers investigate road rage shooting involving area deputy
The Texas Rangers are investigating a road rage shooting involving an off-duty McLennan County Sheriff’s Deputy.
It happened around 11 p.m. on Christmas Eve on Antler Road off State Highway 6.
According to sheriff's office officials, an off-duty deputy in his personal vehicle encountered an aggressive driver; he let the driver pass, but the man stopped his car, put it in reverse, and came back to the officer.
The deputy got out of his vehicle and told the man he was an armed officer, however, officials say the man told the deputy “he didn’t care,” and a verbal confrontation ensued.
After the man displayed a weapon, officials say the deputy fired several rounds.
“The suspect fled in his vehicle, and was later found and detained by Waco PD, interviewed by the Texas Rangers, and released,” said Chief Deputy David Kilcrease.
Kilcrease said the patrol deputy has been assigned to administrative duties until the Rangers investigation is complete.
“It does seem like here in Waco were seeing more and more aggressive drivers, and it’s truly unfortunate,” said Kilcrease.
No one was injured and no arrests have been made.
