WOODWAY, Texas (KWTX) Woodway police officers were mourning Thursday after the death of the department’s K-9, Gerry.

“His liver was failing, and there was nothing more that could have been done,” police said in a Facebook post.

“After days of radiographs, ultrasounds, lab work, and consultations- the difficult decision to let Gerry cross over the Rainbow Bridge was made.”

During a 4-and-a-half year career, the dog alerted on numerous items of drug paraphernalia, recovered more than $11,300, and was a staple at various department and city events, police said.

“Everyone who met Gerry fell in love with him, and his presence will be greatly missed not only here at the department, but by all of Woodway,” police said.

“Rest easy, furry fella- we will take it from here.”
