A Fort Hood soldier returning from a deployment to Kuwait surprised his third grade daughter at a local school Wednesday.

After a nearly nine month deployment, Sgt. Joshua Rosales surprised 4th grade student Aiyanah Jimenez during a school assembly at Crestview Elementary in Waco.

"At first I wasn't nervous, but it wasn't until I got here, then I started getting nervous, my palms started getting sweaty, and once I walked in, I saw her, saw her reaction, then, I was in shock. I didn't expect her to cry like that," Rosales said.

Aiyanah's mother and Rosales' husband, Amanda Contreras, said the deployment was hard on her daughter.

"Aiyanah and Joshua, they are very very close, so this deployment has been so hard," Contreras said.

But now that Rosales is home, the family is whole once again.
