ROBINSON, Texas (KWTX) Police have arrested a man they say was attempting to pass stolen checks at a Robinson bank Wednesday afternoon.

Ladarwin DeJohn Tipps, 33, of Waco, has been charged with forgery of a financial instrument, a state jail felony.

He was also jailed on a charge out of another county for failure to pay child support.

Tipps remained at the McLennan County Jail Thursday night in lieu of bonds totaling $7,500.

According to Chief Phillip Prasifka, they received a report of man attempting to pass stolen checks at the Fidelity Bank on S. Robinson Dr. just before 1:15 pm Wednesday.

After finding the suspect inside, an on-scene investigation revealed he tried to cash two checks; one was for $1,350 and the other was for $225, and both were flagged as stolen and/or fradulent, Prasifka said.

"The two checks were confirmed to be stolen by the bank," he said.

While the suspect presented a Texas driver's license matching the name on checks when trying to cash them, Prasifka said they determined the suspect was not the same man on the license.

The suspect was subsequently identified as Tipps, Prasifka said, and he was taken into custody without incident.
