Sailor from Central Texas serves on Navy's most advanced aircraft carrier
A sailor from Central Texas serves on board what will be the most technologically advanced aircraft carrier in the U.S. Navy.
Engineman 2nd Class Khalil Shelton is originally from Waco and he's assigned to reactor department on the USS Gerald R. Ford.
He recently participated in a weightlifting competition on the ship which has three gyms, a store and a coffee shop.
The USS Gerald R. Ford the biggest aircraft carrier ever built and it is classified to take on helicopters.
But right now it's in Norfolk, Virginia undergoing preparations to become a full-fledged aircraft carrier.
It will eventually be able to take on 25 percent more aircraft than any other carrier in the U.S. Navy.
Testing begins in January.
Shelton plays a vital role in keeping the $13 billion ship running efficiently.
