BAILEY COUNTY, Texas (KWTX) Nine Muleshoe ISD students were injured when the school bus in which they were riding collided with an 18-wheeler Tuesday afternoon in West Texas.

Eight of the students and the driver of the 18-wheeler were taken to the Muleshoe Area Medical Center with minor injuries and the ninth was taken to University Medical Center in Lubbock.

None suffered incapacitating injuries.

The school bus driver wasn’t hurt.

Authorities first reported that 10 students were injured.

The accident happened at around 2:20 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of State Highway 214 and County Road 1028 north of Muleshoe.

The bus and the 18-wheeler were both northbound on Highway 214 at the time of the accident, the Department of Public Safety said.

The crash occurred as the driver of the 18-wheeler attempted to pass the bus at the same time the bus driver was turning west from the highway onto CR 1028.

The students were on their way home after summer school classes, officials said.
