Schoolgirl struck by car taken to local hospital

An 11-year-old girl who was struck by a car just after 3 p.m. Tuesday as she crossed a busy Killeen street after school was taken to McLane Children’s Hospital in Temple.
The fifth grader was struck as she walked across Old FM 440 at the intersection with Wheeler Avenue.
Her mother and grandmother were waiting for her on the opposite side of the street.
A witness said ran outside after hearing a scream and found the girl lying in the road.
The girl was conscious when she was transported.
A school district spokesman said her injuries weren't life-threatening.
