The driver of an 18-wheeler who died early Thursday when the rig veered off a farm-to-market road northeast of Robinson and overturned was identified Friday as Joe Drake, 48 of Waco.

The accident was reported at around 4:30 a.m. Thursday on FM 434 near Flying Heart Road.

The Western Star 18-wheeler was headed south on FM 434 when it left the roadway and overturned, the Department of Public Safety said.

Drake died at the scene.

Investigators say they think Drake may have fallen asleep at the wheel.

Earlier Thursday morning a crash involving multiple 18-wheelers on Interstate 35 between Bruceville-Eddy and Troy left one driver dead and two others injured.
