KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) A second-grade student was caught with a loaded gun Thursday morning at Maxdale Elementary School in Killeen.
“Killeen ISD Police were at the school when the student arrived and found the weapon in the student’s backpack and confiscated it,” district spokesman Terry Abbott said.
The same student took a gun to the school Wednesday as well, Abbott said.
After other students told administrators about the weapon, district police were alerted.
When the 9-year-old boy arrived at school Thursday morning, police were waiting.
They searched the backpack and found the gun.
District police are investigating.
Officials didn’t say what type of gun the student had.
Parents of Maxdale students were contacted.
“Maxdale Elementary is dedicated to ensuring student safety and is encouraging parents to urge students to immediately report any incident that might create a safety concern,” Abbott said.
It was the second such incident this week in Bell County.
A student was taken into custody Tuesday at Salado Junior High School after officials learned he had a loaded .32 caliber handgun in his backpack.
Two other students discovered that the teenager had the gun and told an administrator, authorities said.
