BELLMEAD, Texas (KWTX) The 69-year-old driver of an 18-wheeler that veered off Interstate 35 and crashed into an H-E-B car wash shortly after midnight Friday morning in Bellmead was taken to a local hospital.
The man evidently experienced “a potentially life-threatening” medical issue before the crash, which caused him to lose control of the rig, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said.
The truck left the highway, careened down an embankment and onto the service road, striking two light poles and another vehicle.
From there it passed between two gas pumps and then slammed into the car wash.
The truck driver was taken to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center with what Swanton said were serious injuries.
The driver of the vehicle the truck struck wasn’t hurt.
The cleanup took several hours.
