Suspect sought after woman shot inside apartment at local complex

Police were looking for a 28-year-old man Friday after a shooting Thursday evening at a Waco apartment complex that sent a woman to a local hospital.
Police identified the victim Friday as Courtney Gooding.
Officers found her in the parking lot of the Villages apartments at 1100 North 6th St. after responding to a report of the shooting at around 6:30 p.m.
She had a bullet wound to the back of her neck.
“Officers were eventually able to obtain information that the shooting occurred inside an apartment. The victim claimed that a 28- year-old, black male came into the apartment and she was shot. The male fled the scene,” police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said Friday.
Gooding was taken to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center.
Her injuries weren’t life-threatening, Swanton said.
The victim, who was shot once, was alert when police arrived, an officer at the scene said.
She initially told officers that a man she didn’t know entered her apartment.
She said she heard a “pop,” then her neck began to burn and she realized she’d been shot, police said.
The suspect remains at large.
