TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) Police recovered “illegal controlled substances” from a house in a neighborhood just south of Scott Elementary School in Temple where a shooting early Friday during a home invasion sent two men to a local hospital.

“Officers are working to determine if that was a contributing factor to this incident. The exact type and amount of substances are still under investigation,” police spokesman Cody Weems said in a press release.

Officers responded at around 5:30 a.m. Friday to a report of the shooting in the 2200 block of South 47th Street in Temple.

Both men were taken to Scott & White Medical Center, police said.

Both were in stable condition.

“A preliminary investigation indicates the shooting occurred inside a residence during a burglary attempt,” police said in a press release.

Officers are looking for three men in connection with the shooting.

The shooting was the second in the city in 24 hours.

At around 5:45 a.m. Thursday a shooting near the 600 block of West French Avenue sent one person to the hospital with injuries police described as non-life-threatening.

The incidents aren’t related, police said.
