Shooting in local neighborhood leaves 2 dead; suspect in custody

A suspect was in custody after a deadly shooting Friday night in a Bellmead neighborhood.

According to authorities, officers responded at around 7 p.m. Friday to a report of gunfire in the 4700 block of Florida Street. They found a man and a woman with gunshot wounds lying in the backyard of a home.

Both victims died, police said. The victims have been identified as 40-year-old Rachel Dionne Strickland and 42-year-old Christopher Dewayne Wilson, both of Bellmead.

The suspect, 36-year-old Johnny Wilson, was arrested. He is charged with two counts of capital murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon - domestic Violence , endangering a child, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.

Police say a 16-year-old girl was also hurt but able to flee to safety as officers arrived. She was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Wilson remains in the McLennan County Jail.
