Man injured in exchange of gunfire flown to local hospital

KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) A 27-year-old man who was flown to a local hospital after he was injured in an exchange of gunfire early Tuesday evening in a Killeen neighborhood remained in critical condition Wednesday as police continued to look for leads in the shooting.

Officers responded to a report of the shooting just after 5 p.m. at the intersection of East Dean Avenue and North 8th Street in Killeen.

The victim, whose name was not released, was found in a vehicle several blocks away on Hoover Avenue with a gunshot wound to the chest, police spokeswoman Ofelia Miramontez said Wednesday.

He was airlifted to Scott & White Medical Center in Temple.

“After speaking with witnesses, the officers were told that a gold vehicle approached the victim’s vehicle, when gunshots were exchanged,” Miramontez said.

“Both vehicles fled the scene,” she said.
