Teenager charged in shooting that left local man dead

Larry Leshawn Thomas, Jr., 19, of Harker Heights, was in the Bell County Jail Friday charged with murder in a shooting that left a local man dead.
Officers from the Bell County Organized Crime Unit and the Harker Heights Police Department arrested Thomas at around 7:45 p.m. Thursday.
His bond is set at $1 million.
Officers found Jose Antonio Hernandez, 28, of Harker Heights, lying next to a vehicle just after 8:35 p.m. on Tuesday in the 400 block of Amy Lane.
An officer performed CPR until paramedics arrived.
The shooting stemmed from an altercation that started in the parking lot of a business in the 400 block of East Veterans Memorial Boulevard, police said Wednesday.
Further details weren’t released.
Hernandez was taken to Scott & White Medical Center in Temple in critical condition and later died.
Authorities Friday were searching for evidence in an area near where Hernandez was found.
