Several suspected burglars are in custody and one is in a local hospital in critical condition after a resident fired toward the door of his home to thwart an attempted home invasion in Killeen.

The injured suspect was in critical, but stable condition Wednesday morning, police spokeswoman Ofelia Miramontez said in a press release.

Officers were dispatched at around 11:20 p.m. to the home in the 200 block of Mary Jane Street, where the resident said he heard loud banging and the sound of glass shattering as the suspects attempted to break in.

He told officers he fired several shots toward the door.

“A short time later, investigation led to multiple suspects who were taken into custody,” Miramontez said.

She didn’t say how many were arrested.

The wounded suspect later showed up at Metroplex Hospital.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at (254) 526-TIPS.
