Killeen: Special need kids take part of 'Tryathlon'

KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) Dozens of special needs kids in Killeen are home with medals after participating in the first ever "Tryathlon."

It was an event this weekend dedicated to helping children with developmental disabilities learn about competing.

The event consisted of parents joining their children while they ran, biked and swam.

To prepare for the competition, the kids trained for weeks.

The event organizer's goal is to teach kids about staying active regardless of any limitation they may have.

"They come to therapy for so much of their lives, it can become monotonous, and we are constantly looking for ways to inspire them," Lena Barr from Kidz Therapeze said.

Organizers hope to turn this event into a yearly tournament.
