A student was taken into custody at Salado Junior High School after officials learned he had a loaded .32 caliber handgun in his backpack.

Two other students discovered that the teenager had the gun and told an administrator, authorities said.

The 14-year-old student’s backpack was removed from his locker in the athletics field house before Bell County deputies arrived at the campus at around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at 620 Thomas Arnold Rd.

“The gun did contain seven rounds in the magazine, (but) no round was chambered,” the Bell County Sheriff’s Department said in a press release Wednesday.

The boy was taken into custody without incident.
