Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg said Wednesday that based on evidence gathered so far, the Tuesday afternoon shooting at a high school in Bellaire was not intentional.
She says both students were part of the ROTC group.
The alleged shooter has been charged with manslaughter in the killing of the 19-year-old student.
Emergency crews were seen performing CPR as the student, who was shot in the chest, was carried on a stretcher to an ambulance Tuesday outside Bellaire High School.
The city, a suburb south west of Houston, confirmed on Twitter that there was a shooting and said the suspect is still at large and advised residents to avoid the area around the school or remain in their homes.
“There has been a shooting at Bellaire High School. The suspect is still at large. Please avoid the area and/or remain in your home until you receive further information from the City of Bellaire,” the tweet read.
