A Waco-area man was held Tuesday in the McLennan County Jail after he was arrested following a bicycle traffic stop in Lacy Lakeview.

Ramon Daniel Gatica, 34, was ordered held on bonds totaling $504,000, charged with failing to identify himself as a fugitive from justice, evading arrest or detention and on bond forfeitures on charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child enhanced and possession of controlled substance methamphetamine, online jail records showed.

A Lacy Lakeview patrol officer stopped a man on a bicycle at around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday along Old Dallas Highway because the rider had no headlight or taillight, Lacy Lakeview police Chief John Truehitt said.

As the officer was speaking with the rider, the man gave what the officer believed was a fictitious name.

After some coaxing, the man admitted his real name, at which time the officer began to handcuff the man.

But the rider broke away and ran across the street trying to escape, when the officer stunned the fleeing, man, Truehitt said.

When the officer checked the rider’s criminal history he learned there were two active warrants naming him for felony charges out of Waco.
