Suspected drunken driver leads local officers on 26-mile chase

HILLSBORO, Texas (KWTX) A Houston man arrested after a suspected drunken driver led state and local officers on a 26-mile late-night chase was jailed Tuesday in lieu of bonds totaling $6,000.

James L. Johnson III is charged with driving while intoxicated and evading arrest with a motor vehicle.

The chase started at around 9 p.m. in Hubbard and ended in Mexia near the Manor Nursing Home on State Highway 171 where authorities formed a rolling roadblock and used spike strips to force the driver to stop, Hubbard police Chief Jason Patrick said Tuesday.

Johnson was taken to the Hill County Jail.

Officers from Hubbard and Mexia, Department of Public Safety troopers and Limestone County deputies were involved in the pursuit.
