BELTON, Texas (KWTX) A teenager suffered head injuries Thursday morning in a fall from a cliff in Chalk Ridge Falls Park along the Lampasas River below the Stillhouse Hollow Lake Dam.

The 18-year-old fell about 40 feet.

Authorities responded at around 11 a.m.

A helicopter was brought in to fly the injured teenager to a hospital.

Information about the teenager's condition wasn't released.

Chalk Ridge Falls Park covers 500 acres and is popular with hikers, but rangers urge caution.

Bringing extra water, staying hydrated and letting people where you are headed before hitting the trails are among the tips rangers offer.

“Before you come out here, before you go to any hiking trail if you have a cellphone make sure the batteries are charged. A dead cellphone is paperweight,” park ranger Todd Spivey said.

Spivey says bringing a map and researching the area is big help for novice hikers.
