TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) Heavy rain caused a 129,500-gallon wastewater spill Tuesday afternoon inside the Lions Park area at 4320 Lions Park. Rd. in Temple, the city announced Wednesday.

“City crews have mobilized to pump the contained discharge water back into the wastewater collection system for proper wastewater treatment. In addition, crews will remove debris and properly disinfect the affected area,” the city said in a press release Wednesday.

Residents should avoid contact with waste material, soil or water in the area that may have been affected by the spill.

Residents within a half mile of the spill site whose drinking water comes from wells should use only water that has been distilled or boiled vigorously and should have their water tested and disinfected if needed.

The spill had no effect on Temple’s municipal water supply, the city said.
