TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) The Temple School Board Wednesday evening named the district’s assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction as the lone finalist to succeed Superintendent Robin Battershell, who announced in October 2017 that she planned to retire at the end of the current school year.
Dr. Bobby Ott has served as an assistant superintendent in Temple since 2012.
"The success of our students and staff is personal. I am excited to continue our direction and reach further in providing our students and staff the opportunity to maximize their potentials," Ott said.
Ott joined the district after serving as a deputy superintendent in both the Copperas Cove and Killeen school districts.
He has also worked as a middle school principal in Anson
While working on his doctorate in educational administration at the University of Texas at Austin he worked in the Division of Curriculum and Professional Development and the Office of Statewide Initiatives at the Texas Education Agency.
"The board has spent countless hours on this search and we feel that we have selected the best candidate to lead our district into the future," School Board President Steve Wright said.
"We are extremely pleased with the selection of Dr. Ott as our next superintendent and look forward to supporting him with his vision and plan for the district," he said
The board must now wait for 21 days before formally appointing Ott to the position.
