TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) Temple firefighters continued their yearly tradition by delivering toys to patients at McLane Children's Medical Center.

Fire engines lit up as they made their grand entrance in front of the medical center.

A variety of toys for infants through teens was distributed to 35 children.

Santa was also there to deliver gifts and give out some jolly joy.

Some firefighters made it their mission to deliver toys even though they were off today.

Temple Fire & Rescue Spokesman Thomas Pechal says being in the hospital on Christmas is not easy for some families.

He says this is a way for the firefighter to help bring some joy to their day.

"In the fire service, we respond to calls for people in trouble. That carries over to off-duty activities," Pechal said,

"They're passionate about trying to help spread some joy to someone who's not able to be at home with their family. " Pechal said.

All toys were purchased by the Temple Professional Firefighters Association Local #846.

Pechal says they hope all the patients have a speedy recovery.
