TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) The City of Temple’s new sports complex, Crossroads Park, won’t open until the spring of 2020 after weather kept crews from properly treating the fields over the last two years.
“Last year we had a major drought we weren’t able to sprig the fields properly and get them watered and this year we ran into a bit too much rain which also delayed the project. We couldn’t get on the fields with our equipment and get everything properly graded and the fields sprigged in,” Assistant Parks and Recreation Director Chuck Ramm said Thursday.
However, work continues on the 260-acre park.
When completed the facility will have eight softball and baseball fields, a 27-hole disk golf course, seven soccer fields, a multipurpose field, five tennis courts and walking trails.
The city says it expects a flood of visitors once it opens, boosting the area’s economy.
“Economically we hope that we will have a lot of tournaments played out here which will help our restaurants help our local businesses obviously people coming in from out of town buying gas,” Ramm said
